Project People Foundation’s Celebrating Life Concert Series will run in at least five US cities over the next five years.

Theme: Celebrating Life ... by honoring women and youth in South Africa and those who opened new doors for you.

Goals:

  • To raise $1,000,000 to enable PPF to expand programs benefiting women and youth in the townships of South Africa and providing community service projects for students in the United States.

  • To provide guests an opportunity to honor loved ones, mentors and friends who have touched their lives.

  • To produce a memorable and electrifying concert that crosses racial, religious and national borders.

First Concert in the Celebrating Life Series:

  • Held in April 2007 at Cason United Methodist Church in Delray Beach, Florida

  • Raised over $53,000 in donations and an additional $50,000 in in-kind gifts

  • Honorary Chairs: Robert and Lynda Bentall, CEDAR Foundation

  • Honorary Patron: Stephen Lewis, Former UN Special Envoy for HIV / AIDS

  • Featured artist: Diana Solomon-Glover, Lead soprano at The Riverside Church of New York City

  • Guest artists: Cantor, Ann Turnoff of Boca Raton, FL and The Florida Atlantic University Gospel Choir

  • Generated significant media attention and attracted over 500 guests

Second Concert in the Celebrating Life Series:

  • Held in November 2007 at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia

  • Raised over $80,500 in donations and attracted over 1,000 guests

  • Honorary Patron: Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu

  • Honorary Chairs:

    • Johnnetta B. Cole, President emerita, Bennett College for Women and Spelman College

    • Elaine B. Alexander, American Jewish Committee

  • Featured artist: Diana Solomon-Glover, Lead soprano at The Riverside Church of New York City

  • Guest artists: The Morehouse College Glee Club, Cantor Deborah Numark, Deborah Nodel Gordon, Ken Ford

  • Generated significant media attention, including television and radio interviews on Good Day Atlanta (Fox 5 Atlanta), WIGO FM, WRFG-FM, WAOK-AM, V-103 FM, the Atlanta Voice and the Atlanta Daily World newspapers.
